Carpenter CUSTOM 455 UNS S45500 is a high-performance stainless steel alloy developed by Carpenter Technology Corporation in the United States.
Custom 455 stainless steel exhibits high strength, good toughness and ductility, and excellent wear resistance. After aging, an exceptionally high yield strength can be obtained. For example, by aging at 900°F (482°C) for 2 to 4 hours, a tensile strength of more than 250 ksi (1742 MPa) can be obtained.
Custom 455 stainless steel has high melting and boiling points, good thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity, which makes it advantageous in high-temperature environments or applications requiring thermal and electrical conductivity.
The main advantages of Custom 455 are its excellent corrosion resistance, wear resistance, high strength and good toughness. These characteristics enable it to perform well in many fields and have a wide range of applications.
Custom 455 stainless steel has good anti-fouling ability in normal atmospheric environments and fresh water, and exhibits good pitting and rust resistance in 5% salt spray and 5% ferric chloride solution. Its overall corrosion resistance is better than that of chromium steel containing 12% chromium (such as type 410) and close to that of chromium steel containing 17% chromium (such as type 430)17.
CarTech CUSTOM 455 UNS S45500 stainless steel, 0.75 inch (19.05 mm) diameter round bar is widely used in the manufacture of various orthopedic and minimally invasive surgical instruments, such as: orthopedic knives, orthopedic scissors, orthopedic forceps, orthopedic hooks, orthopedic needles, orthopedic scrapers, orthopedic cones, orthopedic drills, orthopedic saws, orthopedic chisels, orthopedic files/shovels, rigid tube endoscopes, laparoscopic forceps, laparoscopic instruments, needle holders and other surgical instruments.
